1. Shut off every programme on the system tray.

Make it a habit to regularly delete files and folders and then empty the recycle bin to make room. You’ll be less likely to forget what’s in the files and folders if you do this on a regular basis, and you won’t be as concerned about unintentionally deleting something important.

Handy hint: HDDs typically operate at full capacity up to 90% of the time. The process may be sluggish if you check your space usage and find that it is greater than 90%.

SSDs slow down more gradually when they full up, so it’s critical to keep track of things. It’s not a good idea to use an SSD with a capacity higher than 75%.

5. Keep an eye out for programmes that use a lot of resources

Keep in mind not to turn off everything that is not absolutely necessary. So, conducting a search is a wise move if you’re unsure of something.

9. Make your hard disc clean

Windows has a built-in tool for clearing out clutter that accumulates over time. Select Disk Cleanup from the list of administrative tools by going to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools.

Now that you’ve made your choice, click OK to delete the desired file types. Click Clean up system files after selecting any system files you wish to remove.

10. Make sure to defragment your hard drive

Just remember that you only need to do this if your computer utilises a mechanical Hard Disk Drive to start with (HDD). Hard disc drives (HDDs) need to be defragmented, although solid state drives (SSDs) do not. If you have both, defragment the HDD only then.

Right-click the hard drive beneath My Computer, which is by default titled Windows (C:) but may have a different name. Then select Optimize under Optimize and defragment drive by going to Properties > Tools.

It’s important to note that every drive in the screenshot up there is an SSD. These don’t require defragmentation. As seen in the image, Analyze will be greyed out for SSD drives but available for hard discs.

Select the HDD drive you want to examine, then click Analyze. It should not exceed 5% of the total, according to a decent rule of thumb. By selecting Optimize if it is above, you can defragment the drive.

You’ll see that Optimize is an option if you have a solid-state drive. The TRIM command, which deletes no longer-used data, is started when you click it.

Search for Disk Defragmenter in the search field, then click an HDD under Current status.

11. Modify or disable the graphics and animations

There are many graphics in current Windows versions, including animations like flyouts and fading effects. By making the programme look more polished and modern, these improve the user experience overall. On the other hand, they might slow down your computer.
